| Before disaster strikes, prepare an emergency kit which includes non perishable food, water, a flashlight, first aid kit, a portable battery operated radio, batteries, medicines, a camera to take pictures of the damage and make sure your cell phone is fully charged.

- Make arrangements and accommodations for pets
- Learn where to shut off gas, water and electricity in case the lines are damaged
- Make sure insurance coverage is up to date and have a copy of your policy with important numbers
- Make sure to take pictures of home contents and store in a safe place. We often recommend keeping the pictures or videos at a family members house or somewhere besides the home
- Check chimneys, roofs, walls and foundations for stability or loose pieces
During a Disaster
If you are staying at home
- Stay calm
- Take your disaster supplies kit with you to a safe location in your home, away from windows and glass doors
- Unplug appliances, turn off electricity, gas, and main water valve
If you are evacuated
- Take your disaster kit with you
- Unplug appliances, and turn off utilities
- Tell someone outside of storm area where you are being evacuated to
- Lock doors and follow directions of local officials
After a Disaster
- Once the disaster is over, use a flashlight to check for any water and gas leaks or any broken and loose wiring.
- All gas leaks need to be reported to your utility company and follow their instructions whether you need to leave the home immediately
- Try not to use your vehicle since emergency vehicles will be on the road and power lines and broken tree limbs may be down, as well as, flooding
- Take pictures of the damage
- Check the home for cracks and damage to roof, chimneys and foundation
- Discard any food that has been under any flood waters, except for canned food
